We have all procrastinated about something. Sitting on the couch watching TV when we know we have so much to do. Its an awful feeling because you feel like the world is passing you by. It's one thing to procrastinate about doing your errands for the day, but its another thing to procrastinate about building your online business. You get overwhelmed. You get discouraged. You get the feeling that things aren't happening fast enough. "Where are my opt-ins?" you may be asking. All this effort that doesn't produce immediate results starts creating the behavior of procrastination. You start doing less and less and one day, other activities become priority over what you really need to keep doing.
Most of the time, procrastination comes from not having a clear plan, feeling overwhelmed as previously stated and not knowing how powerful compounding content can really be! Below are three essential tips that you need to implement to kill your procrastinating behavior instead of your procrastinating behavior killing your business.
Set Small Goals and Write Them Down
Again, some people procrastinate because they feel overwhelmed by how much they need to do, which results in doing nothing at all. One way to combat this is by setting small goals for the day and writing them down so that they are staring you in the face all day long. For example, instead of thinking you have to write 50 articles and 50 videos, write down that you need to create 5 videos and 5 articles per week. By doing it this way, you will take a big goal and shrink them down into bite size pieces that will alleviate your feeling of being overwhelmed and will eventually end your behavior of procrastinating. Honestly ask yourself if you would procrastinate over doing something that you know won't take long at all to do. Small tasks build up over time. The best part is that when you feel like you have accomplished something, you'll be less likely to procrastinate again because you get addicted to that self-accomplishment feeling.
Don't Worry About What The Other Guy Is Doing
You know exactly what I'm talking about. You go to the gym to start working out and there are so many other people there who are in much better shape than you or you watch the person next to you lifting much heavier weights. Maybe you're looking at other internet marketers who have hundreds of articles and videos, thousands of followers on Twitter, have done countless webinars and overall have so much more content than you. How can you compete? Right? Well, you are not competing. You're building your business. Plain and simple. Stop comparing and worrying about how much better you think the other guy is. How much more content the other guy has online than you. It's not fair to yourself to do that. Why? Because maybe the person you're comparing yourself to has been working out for years and you just started. Maybe the internet marketer you're reading about has been online for 10 years and you started two months ago. Why am I discussing this? Because when people feel inferior to others, they procrastinate in doing those activities that will better themselves. They start to feel intimidated.
Do not focus on anyone else except yourself and by the time you know it, you'll be the one others are looking at to emulate. What a great feeling!
Content is Compounding So Don't Get Discouraged
What happens when someone doesn't see results fast enough from a particular activity? They either quit or delay in doing that activity because they think it doesn't work. When it comes to online marketing, this couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, you can either pay for traffic or work for traffic. One is quicker than the other but if you have a tight budget, then you must work for it. Now, when you work for it, the results are slow to arrive because you have to have tons of content on the internet. For someone who is impatient, then they might start to procrastinate in doing these activities. Please remember that content is compounding and never goes away. Think of what I'm doing right now. I'm writing this article that will be on the internet forever! I know that I won't get a ton of traffic to my website today but over time, it will create traffic that I desire. Having this thought process will eliminate my procrastinating behavior.
Give yourself one year to provide content to the internet. You will be amazed at the results. Remember, if you procrastinate, time goes by that you can never get back. Think of building a business online like depositing small amounts of money into a savings account. At first, it doesn't seem like much, but over time, you'll have a lot of money. But, for those that procrastinate in going to the bank, guess what happens? You wind up spending that money.
Content is compounding. Just keep going and don't look back
